This natural processed coffee comes from Lalesa Drying Station, located in Ethiopia’s Gedeb district at the southern edge of Yirgacheffe. Gedeb is a high-elevation, coffee-dense region with its own distinctive terroir, producing some of Ethiopia’s most vibrant and expressive coffees. Lalesa plays a vital role in this landscape, employing more than 350 workers during harvest to receive and carefully process cherry each day. The coffee is meticulously inspected for ripeness, washed of debris, and laid out to dry on raised beds for 10–20 days, with constant rotation and monitoring to ensure even drying and pristine quality.
The Lalesa site is owned by Ephtah Specialty Coffee, a newly established, women-led exporter founded by Wubit Bekele. With years of industry experience, Wubit and her team are building a sourcing network across West Arsi, Sidama, Gedeo, and Guji, working with everyone from smallholder farmers to centralized processors. Ephtah’s mission emphasizes women’s empowerment, community engagement, and quality improvement, seeking to inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs. Together, Lalesa and Ephtah are shaping Gedeb’s coffee future while elevating the producers and communities that make these remarkable coffees possible.
