The Gedeo region of Ethiopia, named after its indigenous people, is a benchmark for Arabica coffee, producing coffees with unique and jasmine-like flavors when fully washed. Wenago, located in the Gedeo Zone, is renowned and celebrated for the beauty and complexity of its coffee. Adame Gorbota, a cooperative within Wenago, supports members with varying land sizes, typically small and forested family farms that cultivate coffee for economic gain. Support from Adame Gorbota comes in the form of an elected executive committee responsible for investments, social services, and payment structures; and professional managers who oversee harvest and processing, ensuring accountability to the members. Processing occurs at two sites outside Wenago, involving cherry sorting, depulping, fermentation, and drying on raised beds, with careful protection from midday heat. The Adame Gorbota cooperative is highly regarded by the Yirgacheffe Union (YCFCU) of which they are a member.
