Bedhatu Jibicho and her family’s farm in the Worka area of Gedeb, Yirgacheffe, represent one of the most successful single-farm coffee exporters in Ethiopia. After managing her 84-acre, chemical-free farm single-handedly since 1991, she eventually joined the larger Worka cooperative in 2011, and then the nearby Banko Gotiti cooperative when it formed in 2013, both part of the Yirgacheffe Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union (YCFCU). Bedhatu teamed up with her sons to establish Roba and Family Coffee, allowing them to export directly. 84-acres is drastically larger than most farms in the area, and today the farm employs 20 year-round workers and 130 seasonal workers, primarily women, producing about 5 containers of top-tier exportable coffee each year.

For this natural lot, cherries are meticulously hand-sorted and dried on raised beds over 12 to 20 days, resulting in an exceptionally clean and sought-after profile. Beyond producing outstanding coffee, the Roba family actively invests in their local community by funding localized cherry collection sites and road construction projects to support neighboring farmers.
